This last week I spent my time in New Orleans at a stock plan conference. I left Tuesday morning at 6AM and got back into Portland Friday night at around 8PM. For only a four day trip I got to experience a lot of what the city had to offer and I can say that I would love to go back to see even more. Here's my adventure broken out=)
Tuesday:
Well Tuesday started out extremely stressful! Rion said there was no way I needed to be there two hours before my flight (mainly because that would have meant we had to leave the apartment at 3:30AM and I knew he didn't want to do that) so I got there at around 4:50AM. Would normally be fine except for the fact that they stop checking bags 45 mins before the flight which meant I had 15 mins to get through the longest check in line I had ever seen!!!! Well don't worry I made it with a few minutes to spare, but from now on I'm getting to the airport early=). Got into New Orleans at 3PM and went straight to the hotel. Our first conference event was at 5:30PM and wasn't sure what to expect. Well went downstairs to the main hall and wow was I surprised. There were wall to wall booths of different financial vendors and companies set up just waiting to tell you about their services and what they could offer your company. Not only that but there was massive amounts of food and alcoholic beverages set up around the room all for our enjoyment. Well this was all very overwelming so I retreated to my room after about an hour and ordered some room service since I really wanted a cheesburger with fries. With my order came the cutest little ketchup and mustard containers.

Wednesday:
Most of the day was spent in hour long sessions learning about the different accounting changes and methods of stock planning, something most people would not find enjoyable. Well at around noon we got to break for lunch in which I had still not found the other Intel people that were at the conference (I had never met them face to face so it was difficult looking through the crowd to try and find people I had never met). Well as luck would have it I just happened to accidentally bump into them by randomly sitting at the same lunch table=). I continued the day with sessions and then returned to my room around 5PM to get ready for a lavish event put on by one of our vendors that would involve New Orleans Jazz and a nice dinner. While I was getting ready Marlina (Coworker from Intel) called me to tell me they had gotten me a ticket to the event put on by Merrill Lynch which involved a Jewel concert! Well I thought this was way better so I met up with them in the lobby and off we went. We arrived at the contemporary arts museum where we had traditional New Orleans food and all the drinks our hearts desired. Half way through the appitizer/social hour I realized that the concert was actually a private performance for the 150 people that were in attendance! We were escorted into a small room set up like a comedy club with dim lighting and champagne awaiting at the many little tables. Our table just happened to be 15 feet from where Jewel was going to be standing!!!! She came out and sang for about an hour and it was absolutely amazing, she has a beautiful voice and a great personality!!!
Here's the table we sat at.

After the concert a group of us decided to go look for some local Jazz music. We were semi successful in finding a couple interesting bars with live music. We finally wondered our way down to the famous "Bourbon" street where the real action takes place=). I've honestly never seen anything like it. It was a street full of bars, clubs and strip clubs.....I thought vegas was crazy, vegas is nothing compared to Bourbon street!

At around 1:30AM we found ourselves at a casino rolling some crap dice=). I won $30 and called it quites, but Furnando (Intel EE) made me hang around to roll the dice for him. I won the table a few rolls and then eventually rolled a 7 meaning the whole table loses including $120 of Furnando's money......but I warned him=).
Thursday:
More sessions......but finally had a bit of time to go shopping to get some fun New Orleans suvenirs. Then met up with the Intel folks and a whole bunch of other people at around 6:30 to go on a haunted walking tour of New Orleans! I was really worried that I was going to be scared to death, but it really wasn't that bad, very very interesting.
Here's where we started the tour.....creepy

Here is one of the many creepy places we learned about....

After the tour we then went to the oldest restaurant in New Orleans. A group of us were seated in the "REX" room. The room had teal walls with locked cabinets surrounding the room filled with jewels, crowns and gowns. In between the locked cabinets were black and white profile photos of different men with dates listed below. Eventually we found out that all these men were the crowned kings of Mardi Gras in which they are all named REX for the festivities. We had a wonderfully lavish dinner with all sorts of crazy appitizers, our choice of entree and a wonderful chocolate mousse for dessert. After dinner we hit up bourbon street again in which we were all treated to Hurrican drinks and more live music.
Friday:
More sessions and then headed to the airport at 12 and boarded my flight at 3PM getting home at 8PM....doesn't seem too long except that theres a time change in there making it even longer!!!!
All in all New Orleans is a very friendly fun place to visit. However, I have learned from this experience that I really don't like flying!! Airports are just so chaotic and confusing, I really don't want to fly anywhere anytime soon!
